DRIVING 101

FROM ZERO TO GROUND DRIVING

MODULE 1: Establishing Fundamentals

Let's start from the very beginning. We're going to begin with some basics to establish a good foundation that we will build upon throughout the program. We will use these simple exercises to begin to establish good habits of asking clear questions, getting good responses, and developing a baseline of relaxation and attentiveness – in our horse and also in ourselves. All of the qualities that make a desirable driving horse can first be educated on the lead line.

Tools needed:
  • Well-fitting halter (leather, nylon, or rope are all suitable)

  • Lead rope (no chains, please)

  • Dressage whip or stick of similar length (36-42" is ideal)
